Week 5:

Murder and Strife

Thursday, September 30, 2010

“It is not good enough to have never physically harmed someone else, or to just leave your enemies alone.  Those who claim the name of Christ and are inwardly transformed, proactively seek peace in all their relationships.”

Beginning a section of the sermon that features the phrase, “You have heard it said,” Jesus points out the inadequacy of following the rules when it comes to producing righteousness.  In this first illustration, Jesus raises the bar on the issue of murder.  We all understand that the taking of another’s life is wrong, but Jesus presses on to say that it’s possible to be guilty of murder without physically harming another.  Listen in as WCS Parent David Petrel shares from Matthew 5:21-26 on the role of inward transformation in the production of peaceful relationships.
